During my absence from this blog, I was busy with cheerleading, LAX on Saturdays, being Lucy from "You're a Good man, Charlie Brown", Jumpstart, work, school clubs, social life, other things I can't think of, and most of all the million essays, and the zillion pages I had to read a night.
How do you make time for all of this you ask? Well, I seem to be good with the time management thing to the point where I can afford to spend too much time on facebook doing nothing, too much time reading 20+ blogs daily, and still find time to sleep, though an average of six hours a night.
Now to the point.
It's one in the morning-New Years Eve, and although I don't recall making any new years resolutions, except maybe to update more, I did something really bold.
I told this guy that I liked him, yea, right before a rehearsal for Charlie Brown. One look at the title should tell you how he feels about me.
(How proud would I have been if that was a new years resolution?)
The Point I promise.
So in my research of Charlie Brown, (intensive research, since I've never seen any Charlie Brown movies/episode) i came across this quote, "Nothing the taste out of Peanut Butter quite like unrequitted love". (Charlie Brown)
Well. I say unrequited love takes the taste out of everything, except fashion.
so yea.
resolutions+school musical+Charlie Brown>>> points right back to fashion.

I'm Yours?
MAD pictures from fashion U to come!
but first, I'm having this dilemma, and feel free to apply to life, and DO apply to life. :)
Have you ever wanted a dress, and a friend knows you wanted that dress, because, well she asked you if you liked it and you said I WANT IT.
You know, and she knows that she doesn't want that dress at all, but she acts like she does, and of course she has no intentions of ever getting that dress. She just does it to make you feel bad.
But do you get mad at that dress, and suddenly get over the fact that you even liked it?
Do you even have the right to, since it's not like it's YOUR dress?
OR do you just laugh, because that dress wants you as much as you want it?
so yea.
what about the friend?...

"Very.Sexy"
I'm basically in my bed sick and feeling "blah".
Perfect time to post my first "very.sexy" feature.
So I present
any guy in just a plain white tee and jeans "very.sexy"
(and when that guy happens to be chase Crawford, even very sexier)
and to throw a fun fact out there, that picture is from a filming at Brooklyn College, which is right by where I used to go to High school.
so yea.
picture from my friend's facebook (thanks, Corrine)
and I'm guessing she got it from gossipgirlfan.org

I Return
So, new background.
still doesn't make up for the lack of posting
College is so different from HS- very vague, I know, but that's what it is, and I WILL sure to note the differences in later post.
Missing NYC-which I have to admit is part of the reason why I haven't really been reading and posting blogs.
Missing my family-I get to see them for fall break, 3 days!!!
Missing my friends-I get to see the ones who want to see me in 3 days!!
Fashion related: The preppy-ness that is the overall style of my school is not cute-more, WAY MORE on that, later.
Fashion U for another year!!!

Imma update you!!!!
I'm leaving for school tomorrow, and I am so happy to say that I'm slightly more excited than nervous!!
I was so worried that with my short summer I wasn't going to get to see some of my bestest friends and visit some cool places that I've always taken for granted, like the MET, but I did!
Since it is a new school year, I'm thinking a few changes!
-cool pics from a Lower East Side street fashion show
-secrets reveal in "dear diary"
-very.sexy--look for the first post really soon
-college life
-more piccs
-and although black is my favorite color, a new more colorful layout!
so yea.

Kira Plastina
I have a new obsession with this blog, The Fashion Herald. It's basically all about the shopping on 34th street Herald square. The writer did a series of post on the new Kira Plastinina store on 34th street, and it was then that I found out that she had another store in NYC.
I've been to her first store in SoHo, it's where I got my dress ($59) for a dinner/award ceremony I attended last May.
I love the store, and next to Victoria's Secret, it's the most beautiful store I've been to. With the pink and white walls and closets, the girly logo, the ubiquitous hearts, the candies from Dylan's Candy bar, the colorful clothes and accessories, the store, in Kira Plastinina's (from CosmoGirl!) own words truly feels like "every girl's fantasy closet". However, I must add, despite all the pink, the clothes and accesories are pretty edgy.
the details on the dress, the bow is detachable, the belt ($11), also Kira Plastinina, doesn't come with the dress.
so yea.
I wore it with red pumps, no belt and no visible bra straps to the dinner.

Superheroes
I finally got a chance to see the SUPERHEROES exhibit at the Met last Monday.
Yes, the museum is closed to the public on Mondays, but I have a friend, Vlad, who works there and he was nice enough to take me and to give me a tour of the first floor and the roof.
The exhibit is amazing, and they had actual costumes such as Linda Carter's Wonder Woman, Christian Bale's Batman, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Michelle Pfeiffer's Cat Woman, Tobey Maguire's Spider man and even the little bits in Rebecca Romjin's Mystique.
I wish I could take pictures because the designers , including Jean Paul Gautier, Moschino, and Alexander Mcqueen did an awesome job. The details of every costume is just fantastic.
If you live in the NYC area, I recommend seeing it and many other exhibits, although my friend told me every exhibit is always crowded.
and I got to use the exit that celebreties exit in...
so yea.
Speaking of the Met, I'm so excited for Gossip Girl to return!

NYC, I'm back!!<3
've realized that i've had this blog for a year now (started Aug 7th of last year)
The school, HWS(Hobart and William Smith Colleges) is gorgeous. Everyone was so nice., and I met many cool people, had some really great professors, some really bad food, which I hear gets better during the school year.
It was writing intensive and although I complained a lot, it enhanced my writing skills, and thought me that while I can write a B essay the night before it's due, it takes a whole week of continously working on an essay to get an A.
One thing that I did or didn't do was that I didn't really read fashion blogs. I'll admit, I cheated probably 4 or 5 times and read fashionista and maybe three or four others, but that's a big deal comparing to the 20+ I read everyday. Unfortunately, all the work+facebook+ no laptop=no updates. So, the weekend that I got back home was spent catching up with the fashion world.
so yea
and the picture that I promised, (not the best one) me rocking the head band.

High School Graduate
Let's just say, I still need to work on posting from my phone.
I graduated from HS two days ago, and I don't think it has sunk in yet.
I also leave tomorrow for a summer program at my college, and I'll be back home Aug 2nd. Since I don't have a laptop, I'm not sure if I'll even be able to update.
A while ago, I quoted Mitch hedberg, "sometimes I wake up and I think I should start wearing a beret, but I don't do it. One day I'm gonna, though. You bet your ass, I will have a beret on. That's ridiculous, but it's true. I always fight with wearing a beret", in a post that was and wasn't about knit berets.
Inspired by that quote, I wore a headband around my fore head to school for the last day of school. I always fought with the idea fearing that I'd look too much like a hippie. Well, a dean at my HS thought I looked more Olivia Newton John, while a friend of mine thought I look more street fighter. Ironically, a girl who happened to be wearing a beret saw me and with a weird look on her face asked, "what's this", to which of course I replied, "what?"
I think that was a perfect way to end HS. Freshman year, I was all about blending in, and as the year past, I became about expressing myself no matter what others thought. The past four years, I've learned in terms of style, Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind. (Dr.Seuss is awesome!)
so yea

Promzilla
Had I known about this, I would've been able to update throughout the day on Wednesday.
So, I got to the hair salon and met the hair dresser which my friend Fabs had referred to me. She was super nice and even went with me to a store to help me pick out the hair that best matched my own hair color. It took me about 6 hours to get my hair done!!! My mom finally came and after that I went and got a mani-pedi. I got home at around 5, and realized that I had to be at my friend Sam's at 5. So, in a promzilla manner, I got ready for prom. My mom, sister, and I arrived at her house at around 6 and was relieved that the limo was running late.
The shoes and clutch
my dress-my mom added the straps
I had an amazing time.
so yea.
****The crying, frustration, and stress did eventually subside as my friend Sean IMed me and stayed on AIM with me as I chronicled my very stressful day to him.****

Prom Day: The Stress
My Prom is today, and it's raining, and believe it or not, I'm NOT THAT excited.
I'm going to try to update about my prom preparations today.
Right now I'm stressed because my mom went to work, and I'm basically left alone to prepare. Yes, I'm crying because I don't know how I'm going to do my hair and I'm getting extensions and I have to buy hair and I don't know what color to get because my hair is really hard to match.
so yea

YSL
Right next to my calculus class is the MAN's bathroom. Yesterday, for the first time ever, I noticed that the bathroom had a man's sign on it. I turned around looked at my friend and said, "A, why does the boys' bathroom say MAN and the..." Without letting me finish my sentence, she casually said, "yea I know". I thought to myself, so the girls' bathroom can't say Woman.
That was after I heard about the death of Yves Saint-Laurent. So what does this have to do with Yves Saint-Laurent?
not much, except when I think of YSL, I think of the pant suit.
To me, the pant suit represents girl power, and femininity.
The Fashion Bomb has some really great examples of the pantsuit.
so yea.
Yves Saint-Laurent, Dona Karan, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein all hold a special place in my heart, because they were really the only designers, though not the only brands, that I remembered hearing of growing up. When my dad talks about Yves Saint-Laurent and his impact on fashion, that's when you know the guy was a big deal.

Senioritis
hey
I wished I could blame my hiatus on the school play and hours of HW, but I can't because my school play (Annie Get Your Gun) was two weeks ago, and I barely have any HW now.
I finally got a cell phone-my first one!!
The play, a western, left me with a love of cowboy boots, plaids and fake eye lashes.
I have my prom dress-I'll post pics after prom.
so yea.
I promise to post more often from now on.

All Dressed Up Girls
Studying for AP Euro + Annie Get Your Gun rehearsals until 9PM+ reading both 1984 and Light in August+ too much time on AIM= reason for lack of postings
On Wednesday, I woke up and decided to wear a dress to school, something I don't think I've ever did in all my four year of HS. I layered my blue bubble dress from American Rag on a black tee, and dressed it down with the bluebird printed Keds . (no pic, camera still broke)
I got comments like, "Daphney wearing a dress to school?", "pretty dress", and " dressing for a boy".
I thought, I don't dress for boys. I would never dress for boys unless that boy was Philip Lim, Andre Leon Talley or any other male in the fashion industry.
The point is, I dress for me because if I look in the mirror and don't like the way I look, I WILL change my outfit over and over again. If anything I'd dress for other girls-they're probably the ones who actually notices stuff like your accessories looking wrong with your dress.
Speaking of dresses, with the exception of Christina Ricci's dress (and very few others) how boring were the dresses at the Met's costume ball?
This Givenchy dress is PERFECT, and the fact that she stayed true to the theme, MORE PERFECT. I want to buy it and frame it.
but yea.
I have yet to buy my prom dress.

It Was My Birthday...
I turned 18 on Saturday the 26th!!!!!
I was suppose to go karaoke-ing with some friends, but couldn't since I was at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) visiting (Thurs-Sat.). However, I didn't let that stop me from having fun. The Latin American Organization was having a party, and I danced the night away-well until 2AM.
I was so tired when I arrived home on Saturday, but I still managed to eat too much cake and to thank the 50+ people who left me a birthday wish on face book.
Fashion related: The school is the best dressed out of the many schools I've visited. I attended two classes, and was impressed that no one was wearing pajamas. Instead, girls were wearing sun dresses, shorts, miniskirts and cardigans. Most of the guys looked like they belonged in an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog (if there is one). One guy, very gorgeous, even managed to pull off wearing pink shorts with a green polo. As I stood staring at him, I tried to muster some confidence to ask him for a picture to post on this blog, when I remembered that my camera broke!
so yea.
I had a great time there, and I might attend HWS in the fall.

Prom Clutch?
My Prom is in less than two months and I don't really know what I want to wear. In a way I do, but Philip Lim and Bill Blass are a little bit out of my price range since I'm trying to buy the least expensive dress possible. I feel like I'm so behind since I know so many girls at my school who already have their dresses.
It's okay though, because I think I may have found a clutch from Betsey Johnson. I'm still trying to justify the cost.
so yea.
I must give a shout out to L&F since that's where I first saw the clutch.

My problem with Forever 21 is...
It was a couple of days before my friend's sweet 16. The theme was 60s and 70s, and not wanting to look too costumy (not a word), I searched desperately for something that was not only 60s and 70s but also very formal. I went to Forever 21 and found the perfect dress (polka dots and all), but at a SIZE LARGE, it was too small . So, I went back to that section and looked for an XL, and noticed that there were no XL in that section or any other sections. Less than 3 weeks shy of my own sixteenth birthday, my fifteen year old self who knew nothing of vanity sizing, decided that she was too FAT , and decided to lose weight. Initially, I didn't take it seriously, but fast forward to June of that year: I'm watching my portion sizes, avoiding desserts, dancing, jump roping, and religiously following the work out routines in CosmoGirl! and Seventeen. It worked, because that summer I lost a lot of weight, and a Forever 21 LARGE was tight on me. New school year(Junior year) starts and a combination of Lacrosse and still avoiding chocolate chip cookies helped me lose more weight. A little more mature, I decided that I wasn't going to let Forever 21 or any other store tell me whether I am FAT or not. To this day, I have never bought or tried on any thing at Forever 21.
Now that I can probably fit into their mediums, I should probably have no problems with them right? WRONG. They, like many other stores, need to carry larger sizes.
The fact that they are constantly ripping off designers and their clothes are too trendy is another one of problems with them, but that's another post that must include HandM.
So yea.
Maybe it's just the forever 21 that I went to that doesn't carry larger sizes.
post was inspired by Philip Lim not carrying sizes bigger than 10, vanity sizing, and a link of Forever 21's site.

For a Cause Spotlights: uptownliz
A while ago, I posted about giving back through shopping.
I got a wonderful comment from Ramona Russel about a website she created in memory of her sister Liz, who died from breast cancer. The website, Uptown Liz, "was founded to promote products from companies whose proceeds directly give back to charitable organizations".
The site is beyond amazing. It's set up in a way that you can shop by products or by charity.
They have everything from shoes to toys, supporting almost every cause from autism to ovarian cancer.
I think this site might just be the sight to change my mind about online shopping.
so yea. Shop for a Cause. Uptown Liz calls it "retail philanthropy".

Kate Bosworth, You stole my style
Every time my brother(the second oldest one) sees Jay-Z, he gets mad. He feels like he came up with the style that many seem to credit Jay-Z for-the button down shirt.
Well, after reading so many post about this dress and the praises Kate Bosworth got for the way she wore it, I slowly started to feel the way my brother does about Jay-Z.
Since I'm a little "chest heavy", strapless bras don't give me the support that I need and no bra is a big NONONOWAY, and bra-straps showing is just a NONO. However, I never let that keep me from wearing Tube tops and halter tops. I always, since I can remember, have been layering tanks underneath tupe tops and halter tops.
But I guess feeling like a celebrity or anyone else "stole" your style is crazy. Does any body really have a style that they can actually call their own?
so yea. I probably would never have thought of accessorizing( is that an actual word) with blue.

Finally Found the Perfect Shoes!!!!
The end of the school year (and high school) means attending dinners, parties, and ceremonies... I have no idea what I'm going to be wearing to any of them, but I have found a nice blue and white summer dress. My only problem was that I couldn't find shoes to go with it. Well, the wait is over because I've found the shoes!!
I found out that there is a Crocs store in NYC, so I'll probably go over the weekend.
so yea, now all I need is a cute hand bag.
yea. April Fools!!!!

Men's wear? Try Boys' wear.
Sweatshirts, layering tees, and a flannel shirt, I wear them, but they don't belong to me.
Macy's is one of my favorite places to shop, and whenever I go there I'm always very eager to shop for my younger brothers. Why? you ask. Besides the fact that I do love them and enjoy being a personal shopper, I am able to wear some boys' shirts in sizes 10-14 which happens to be the same size my eight year old brother wears.
With men's wear being in right now, I think everyone should head to the boy's department for men's wear clothes instead of women stores. Boys' clothes are cheaper, and they fit better.
Just remember the idea is to have a men's inspired outfit, not to dress like a man. so yea. dudes

Inspired by: Jennifer Freeman
Jennifer Freeman-the girl from My Wife and Kids and You Got Served is being added to my short list of style inspirations . I don't really see pictures of her very often ( a very good thing in my opinion), so I was really surprised to see this picture of her on the YBF a while ago. I fell in love with the dress and I'm even thinking of getting a maxi of my own.
Of course it takes more than just a pretty dress to be inducted in my style inspirations list. Before adding her, I had to do some research.
note how she accessories with the same clutch in the first two pictures. I love that she pairs silver and red in the third pic.
These three outfits are all gorgeous and note how she accessories with the same belt and shoes. I think the fact that she wears the same things not once, but twice and together adds to her appeal.

Tap Water Week
Beside being fashion obsessed and wanting to work in the fashion business, I am also very interested in charity work with hopes of working for UNICEF and the UN and even starting my own . I'm even thinking of names and I already know what I want it to be all about.
So anyways, as an official 2008 UNICEF volunteer (I have a card and everything) I decided to help out with the Tap Water Project, (unfortunately I wasn't able to get any of the restaurants I visited to sign up). This week is Tap Water Week and I would love for all to participate in any way they can. http://www.tapproject.org.
I know, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I honestly have no time.
Lacrosse, HW, the school play, HW, research paper, Key Club, HW, the Fashion Show (which I will post about later on this week), HW, ...
Rachel Bilson, Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, oh my! they all have fashion lines out!!!
I promise to write, write, write before March ends
so yea

What do I have in common with Blake Lively?
We're both in the March issue of Teen Vogue!!!
If you've been reading my blog, you know that about the X-fit Lycra seminar I participated in at Teen Vogue Fashion U.
Like I mentioned in that post, my group's concept for an ad wasn't the winning one. The one that won is featured in this month's issue of Teen Vogue.
So, in November, I got an email from Tracy, a creative director at Teen Vogue, and it basically said that they were shooting the and I should stop by. The shoot was really cool, and I had the chance to see the behind the scene stuff that goes on, like the cool camera that transfered the pictures to the computers and how the photographer transfered pictures from one computer to the other just by dragging it with a mouse.
After the shoot was almost done, Tracy told us (me and two other girls who also came) that we were going to take a picture that was to appear in the magazine. We were pretty excited, and surprise since that was totally unexpected. I mean I could have actually done my hair and get all dressed up had I known that I was going to be in Teen Vogue.
so yea- Check me out!! my name is also in print.

Inspired by: Leighton Meester
After reading from Z100 that Leighton Meester was going to be in Times Square for the Sunsilk Life Can't Wait Campaign, I rushed to Times Square to meet her. I was disappointed that she arrived late, and that there was no autograph signing, but I did get free sunsilk products, a screening pass to Charlie Bartlett, a Z100 t-shirt and a hair consultation from a stylist. She looked really beautiful and the outfit she wore just added her to my style inspirations list. An honor considering it only Kerry Washington, Sienna Miller, Rachel Bilson, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and her character on Gossip Girl Serena Van der Woodsen.
Isn't the outfit just perfect? I'm loving the skinny red belt. I can see myself rocking that outfit, with closed-toed shoes, to Model Congress weekend at my school or to one of my debates.
Picture from fabsugar My camera is messed up.
So yea, I definitely need to get a red belt.
AND that day I saw Steve-O with a bunch of guys in silver thongs.

Lacoste, Lim, Azria
Oh My!
continuing with my mini fashion week coverage.
Lacoste-I usually hate the whole preppy thing, but I loved the Lacoste collection. I can see myself wearing a lot of the pieces(not together of course). I loved the runway show itself. it started so "colorless" and kind of boring then it was just like color!!! I want all the scarves, tights and earmuffs from that collection, it's freezing cold right now.
3.1 Philip Lim- He's collection was not youthful enough in my opinion, but I absolutely loved the details and these slouchy boots... My writing class teacher actually got to see the show.
BCBG Max Azria-perfect is the only word that can describe this collection.
I can actually see myself wearing some of the dresses to end of the year celebrations, and a dress like this one to my prom since I don't like traditional prom dresses. This dress might be too short though, but I'm way shorter than Chanel Iman, so maybe not.
And I'm loving this black skirt, it would be nice to wear to my Lacrosse dinner if it wasn't so short and expensive.
Pictures from style.com
that's the end of my mini fashion week coverage. so yea.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
Expect a lot of posting next week since I'll be off from school.
So far senior year have been a lot of work.
Ever since seeing the Erin Fetherston heart-shaped bag for the first time at Teen Vogue Fashion U last October, I've been asking myself, "where can one possibly wear that to", I guess today, you can wear it anywhere. so yea.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria-uniqueness
When, fashion week started, I was so excited. I wanted to update everyday, but then I thought, I'm not going to that because there is an innumerable amount of websites covering fashion week. So, I'm only going to write about some of the shows
Hervé Léger-uniqueness
I have never seen a collection that wasn't unique, but Hervé Léger is a different kind of unique. Who knew you could do all these different designs with bands? Although there are some dresses I wouldn't wear, I absolutely love the collection. I think the dresses are very feminine, classic and sexy. Max Azria did a good job keeping Hervé Leroux's original band designs classic while adding his own touch.
I still don't have that LBD that every girl should have in her closet. This pictured black dress, is my favorite from the collection. I want it, it's the perfect dress. It's shouting my name, but I must ignore the noises seeing as this dress probably cost too much money. So yea, I love this dress.

So Close, Yet So Far
Yesterday, after picking up my report card and schedule, I went to a meeting at the research library with a friend. Since we had time to kill, we decided to walk around. Then I saw them-THE TENTS at Bryant Park. The same tents that I wish to sit in watching a fashion show one day( as an editor or PR person). At that moment, I felt so close to that dream, to the runways, to FASHION.
Yet, I felt so far-like a couple of years far. It's hard to describe the feeling. I mean, I feel that way about a lot of things in NYC. There's always something going on right next to you, and yet it feels so far.
AND I saw a beautiful dress at BCBG Max Azria that was screaming, "wear me to the prom!!!".
AND they're building an Alice and Olivia store-if only there stuff wasn't so expensive.
So yea-fashion week soon!!!

Wear a Knit Beret
I love quotes (especially ones by Vince Lombardi), and I find myself googling "random quotes" way too often. I stumbled across this quote, "sometimes I wake up and I think I should start wearing a beret, but I don't do it. One day I'm gonna, though. You bet your ass, I will have a beret on. That's ridiculous, but it's true. I always fight with wearing a beret".-Mitch hedberg
This quote applies to my life from deciding whether today is the day I tell ---- that I like him to whether today is the day I raise my hand and participate in my math class to whether I should take a fashion risk and wear something completely out there to school. I always find myself fighting with these things, and when it comes to fashion it's always about head wear.
When scarves as belt became popular, I struggled with the idea of wearing one as a belt, and I finally did it, and it felt good, but then wearing them as head bands became popular and I struggled with that idea, and it took a while to finally wear one.
Now I'm struggling with the idea of wearing berets, and that quotes applies to me directly. I've been doing some research, and I found these as inspirations. The only problem is, I have short hair, so it's going to be hard to achieve these looks from instyle.com. I don't always like trends-especially trends like knit berets which I think is going to fade in months- but I think everyone should buy one. They can really spice up a simple outfit. Selma Blair's outfit is a great example. fashionunder100.com has great ideas on how to achieve her look. Check http://fashionunder100.blogspot.com/2008/01/selma-blairs-look-for-9934.html
so yea-take risks, get a knit beret.

For a CAUSE spotlights American Eagle Outfitters and Aeropostale
While I'm not obsess with shopping, I go shopping every chance I get. It makes me happy and nothing can cure a bad grade on a calculus test than going shopping and finding that one unexpected item. When that item is for a cause, I get even happier because I know that I'm doing something to help out a cause, and I realize that there are more serious things in the world, and I shouldn't let a calculus grade ruin my life.
My shop for a cause items include: a tennis racquet, t-shirts, and bracelets.
Lately I've noticed that American Eagle is doing their part in shopping for a cause. In November of last year, they launched AE better World, which you can read all about here. They launched the scarves, which supports three different charities:Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (Fuchsia Pink), Jumpstart (Berry Red) and the Student Conservation Association (Polar Navy). I'll keep you updated on their next projects, one of which is with Declare Yourself.
When I think of American Eagle, Aeropostale automatically comes to mind. They recently partnered with Do Something and they created Teens for Jeans which aids homelessness. You basically donate your jeans and you get 20% off of a new pair. I think of it as shopping for a cause with a twist: you're giving, and you're receiving and you're shopping!!
so yea. shop for a cause!!
